Description
Mural of Milana In Mariupol there was a mural called “Milana.” It symbolizes the city and was founded by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. On the wall of the fifteen-floor building in the Peace Plaza, there was a portrait of Milana Abdurakhitova, a six-year-old girl from Mariupol whose life was interrupted by the war. In the winter of 2015, her mother perished by covering her during the shootings in the western part of the city. The girl miraculously survived but lost her leg. She underwent several operations and addition to her rehabilitation, psychologists from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation helped her emerge from a state of shock and learn how to proceed with her life. The child also annually went through a restorative course through a Rinat Akhmetov Foundation program called “Rehabilitation of Wounded Children.” After the occupation of the city in the year 2022, the mural was painted over. It no longer exists.
